Kongskilde VM22 diet mixer on demo

On farm feedback - the Kongskilde VM22 on demo

After testing various diet mixers from a range of brands Pied House Farm recently had a demo of a Kongskilde VM22 diet mixer from our Welshpool Depot. We talked to Morton Jones to find out how he was getting on with it and what his impressions were of the different features.

We asked Morton about the quality of the mix, he told us “We had a range of demos from other manufacturers prior to looking at this feeder, but this one had lots of features that put it ahead of the competition. It did a really consistent mix. The auger varies the height of the feed and keeping the feed higher in the mixer kept it light and fluffy which meant you didn’t get any grass balls. That means you know that the cows are getting a consistent mix, with every mouthful having including all of the ingredients you want them to have."

Another feature, Morton explained, is the blue tooth weigh system. “It’s really good for a start there not a bunch of cables hanging out the back window and above the pto its all inside the cab – you just get in and switch it on. No need to keep going back and forth from machines. As well as the convenience it’s a safety feature too as there’s no need to lean over the PTO  to bring the weigh cell screen in sight for loading- everything is inside the cab. Also with our old one being outside water eventually gets inside the computer so the benefits of this one are long term too as that won’t be an issue.”

Thinking about the manoeuvrability of the kit they had thought that the double axle would need a steering axle with it but he explained “with the cross conveyor at the front it could swing out of buildings really easily and went around the yard easier than the 15 cubic feeder we have now even though this one is bigger.

The unloading conveyor is another great feature it has a moving belt that goes from side to side and that means you can put the feed wherever you want – in the troughs, on the floor or anywhere you want to feed the cows.

One of the other things I was impressed with was when we did a dry cow mix with a large amount straw and non -chopped silage bales – it chopped it really easily and handled this no problem at all.”

All in all a highly recommended piece of kit and definitely worth the upgrade.
